Difference between "pour" and "spill"

Pour
"Pour" means making a substance flow from a container into another container, usually in a deliberate way.
  • Pour a drink for me, please.
  • Thousands of people poured (figurative) into the stadium for the game.
  • You pour out the contents of a bottle in order to empty it.

Spill
"Spill" is used when a liquid (or something else) run over the edge of a container usually in an accidental way.
  • I spilled the juice while I was pouring it.
  • I accidentally spilled coffee all over my new suit.
  • The bag ripped open and spilled (out) its contents all over the floor.
