The "place clause" is used to define where the action described in the main clause took place.
The place conjunctions are:
- where
- wherever
- everywhere
- anywhere
Note: The subordinators "wherever", "everywhere",
and
"anywhere"
are similar in meaning and are interchangeable.
You
can begin a sentence with these conjunctions, but usually not with "where".
Examples:
- Most people shop where they get the lowest prices.
- Wherever she goes, there are crowds of people waiting to see her.
- Everywhere we went, people were friendly.
- They gave her permission to go anywhere she wanted to.
