Order of adjectives

In English, it is common to use more than one adjective before a noun. You cannot write them in any order, but you have to put them in the proper order, according to type.  Below you can see correct order of adjectives.
  1. Opinion (polite, fun, cute, difficult, ...);
  2. Size (tall, huge, long, narrow, ...);
  3. Shape (round, oval, triangular, square, irregular, ...);
  4. Age (new, young, adolescent, teenage, middle-aged, old, ...);
  5. Colour (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, ...);
  6. Nationality (English, American, Japanese, ...);
  7. Material (wood, plastic, metal, ceramic, ...);
  8. Purpose (running, racing, ...).
Examples:
  • An ugly big brown wooden office desk.
  • A historic oval black and white family photograph.
  • A strong young American baseball player.
  • Some tiny round yellow flowers.
